Manchester crime thriller All Down The Line republished by Hit the North
All Down The Line by north Northumberland author Andrew J Field is republished as a pocket paperback by Hit the North on 6th June 2025.
First published by Boomslang Books in 2020, the revised/rewritten 2025 version is based on the original novel, follows a similar narrative arc and the same characters.
Set in the author’s former home city of Manchester, All Down The Line sees a PR man and restauranteur risk his life to break the wall of silence imposed by the city’s nastiest gangster to discover the chilling truth about the death of his daughter twenty years ago.
‘All Down the Line was first published in December 2020. Earlier that year the Covid pandemic broke out in the UK and our lives would never be the same again. A year earlier I left Manchester to live by the sea in Northumberland and Line was my farewell to the brilliant city where I’d spent most of my adult life.’
‘When I revisited the book to publish a hardcover version last year, minor revisions evolved into a more extensive rewrite. Although I loved the original narrative arc and all the characters, the world has changed so much in five years, truth and facts appear to no longer matter and our heroes no longer automatically win, nor does justice prevail, although ‘karma’ always has its way,’ says Andrew.
Andrew spent most of his working life PR in Manchester raising the profiles of others, handling Boddingtons Bitter during its “Cream of Manchester” heyday. Clients have also included a convicted armed bank robber and another who did eighteen months prison time for blackmail, although he didn’t know about their colourful backstories at the time.
Andrew J Field lives with Catherine by the sea in Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland, next to the docks and three bridges, and close to the Scottish border. His books include Without Rules and After the Bridge. A member of the Society of Authors and the Crime Writers Association, he has an MA in novel writing from the University of Manchester.
